Description
It's a rolling example of mid '70s cool and, during an era when gas was becoming scarce and a full-fledged embargo was around the corner, this 1977 Buick Regal Landau rolled out in all of its sizable splendor, offering inspired styling and a smooth ride. Downsizing may have arrived, but this 1st generation Regal steadfastly refused to give up much ground as far as stature was concerned, at least for this final year. It's only logged a low 66,947 believed actual miles in its substantial lifetime, so it's running strong and stands ready to bring its vintage mojo to its next lucky owner.
While it was marketed at the time as a "personal luxury car," make no mistake - this is one generously proportioned two-door cruiser. Its sharp look marked the end of the 1st generation 'big' mid-sized Regals and the styling cues on board made representatives like this '77 a rousing success amid faithful Buick fans. Its unusually light usage combines with plenty of time under shelter to leave this Regal in impressively clean condition. By the looks of things up close, this car received a faithful respray back to factory specs several years ago, and other than a couple minor imperfections it's in very solid driver-quality condition. White exteriors aren't the most forgiving, and the one here really represents well - you won't find any major blemishes that need attention and the Light Buckskin Landau top with its vinyl surface and bright stainless steel trim still looks good. From the front bumper to the back and all the trim and badging in between, the chrome still sits securely and has a nice shine to it. Pinstriping - a hallmark of '70s automotive style - runs the considerable length of its sides and frames the surfaces of the hidden headlight covers, and you'll still find nice, sharp edges on all of it.
Time has been mostly kind to the Buckskin tan velour interior and from all appearances, it doesn't seem to have seen much activity over the years. Most of the discoloration you see is just velour doing its 'devil may care' thing, and there are no major rips or tears to report anywhere. The split bench up front and bench seat in the back are both plush and comfortable and there's some substantial real estate separating them, so your backseat passengers will ride in comfort. Plush yet somewhat drab carpeting stretches the length of the floor under the seating and up front, the dash area looks great, with nice clear factory gauges in the instrument cluster, woodgrain inserts that show no fading from UV exposure and a straight, crack-free dash pad over the top. For a '70s era cruiser, there are decent creature comforts on board, including an original steering wheel atop a tilt column, cold factory air conditioning that's at the top of its game and has been updated to modern coolant, and a stock AM radio that actually still works! The ornate door panels are in great shape and match the rest of the cabin perfectly, as does the taut perforated headliner above, while out back the trunk area is nice and roomy and in clean condition, with a full-size spare and jack set sitting inside.
Under the hood, this Regal shows all the hallmarks of being well-cared for and when you turn the ignition key, the numbers-matching 350 cubic inch V8 springs into action willingly and runs smoothly, teaming with a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission to make up an all-original drivetrain that's in very road-ready shape. The engine fires up with ease and runs like it should thanks to the stock carburetor and intake manifold, while a newer radiator keeps the whole show nice and cool. And with factory light blue paint on the block and valve covers, along with a stock black snorkeled air cleaner and intake house on top, the engine bay looks exactly like it did sitting on the showroom floor 45 years ago. Power front disc brakes provide the stopping ability, and power steering makes for easy navigation of this sizable classic as it brings its vintage style to the asphalt on a set of 15" stock Buick road wheel adorned with bright beauty rings and wrapped in 225/70/15 Nexen whitewall tires. A look below reveals just the reassuringly solid undercarriage you'd hope for in a car that's led such a pampered existence - solid floorpans, an original-looking exhaust complete with a catalytic convertor, and well-maintained suspension components.
This 1977 Buick Regal Landau is a great opportunity to put a time-capsule worthy specimen of vintage automotive styling in your garage. Offered with the original build sheet and all of its original owner's manuals, turn your Grandpa's old cruiser into a bonafide head-turner. Call today!
